Frequent power cuts in Kupwara district have left the residents in lurch in the holy month of Ramadan.
Locals from Kupwara town , Handwara town Langate Town ,Rajwar , Qalamabad, Kralgund , Kulangam etc said that they have not seen electricity since the arrival of the holy month of Ramzan “Despite paying regular bills, we face unscheduled power cuts during Ramadan,” said BDC Chairman Langate Showket Hussain Pandit.
“It is appalling that instead of ensuring regular power supply during this holy month, the PDD is resorting to forced cuts,” said a resident .
“There was no shortage of power or water before holy Ramadan, but as soon as Muslim month begin, authorities started curtailing power for hours together that too during Sehri and Iftaar times. Besides we are dying for a drop of water as there is acute shortage of potable water in the locality since past twenty days,” said.
BDC Chairman Langate Showket Hussain Pandit said government should have kept all the essential commodities available to the public in the holy month. Since the first day of Ramadan valley besides bearing frequent cuts has been facing unprecedented price hike in essentials.
“It is an irony that people in this modern age are without power; there is no permanent criterion set by the government for any sector, no one seems to be bothered to check the rates, people don’t have water for abolition that too in holy Ramadan,” he said.
“Today is the 24th day of the holy month of Ramadan, however our problems keep on compounding as the government makes people to suffer for want of drinking water and electricity,” he said.
Showket Hussain Pandit further said that before ramzan we recieved 1700 mega watt electricity but in this month we recieved only 700 mega watt electricity. He said it’s injustice.
He said that NHPC recived many profit form Kashmir why they are not compensating right now .
He said that in Kupwara District land for three mini hydil power projects are ready since couple of years but till time no work was done .
He appealed PM Narendra Modi give solar plant to every district of Kashmir like he announced 2 days before at Jammu for sambha district of Jammu City.
