POONCH, FEB 19: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti today visited the residence of late veteran politician from Poonch Yashpal Sharma to mourn his unfortunate demise.
While mourning the demise of Yashpal Sharma, Mehbooba Mufti expressed shock and grief over his sudden demise and conveyed sympathies to the bereaved family. She termed the death of Yashpal Sharma as a big loss to the party in particular and the society at large in general. While highlighting the qualities and contributions of the deceased leader, she observed that the gap created by Yashpal Sharma’s demise in the polity of the Jammu and Kashmir would not be easy to fill.
Mehbooba Mufti termed Yashpal Sharma as a true statesman and added that his death has created a vacuum in the political horizon of the State which is impossible to be filled. She prayed to Almighty for peace to the departed soul and patience and courage to the bereaved family members to bear this irreparable loss in this hour of grief.
Pertinent to mention that Yashpal Sharma popularly known among his followers as ‘Sher-e-Poonch (lion of Poonch) as he was considered a veteran voice in the party. He was one of the most prominent leaders of Poonch who led the 1978 historical Poonch agitation to protest against Govt’s step motherly treatment meted out to people of Poonch especially the youth in terms of employment to educated youth of the region who had been rendered jobless. After that massive agitation the Government had to provide jobs to the educated youth of Poonch.
Meanwhile, the former Chief Minister also visited the residence of Shamim Ganai, District President Poonch PDP to condole the sad demise of his sister Zahida Parveen. She expressed grief over the untimely demise of Zahida Parveen and prayed to Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give courage to the family members to bear this irreparable loss.
