Karate is a sport of unarmed combat, which demands devotion, high spirit and compliance with the techniques. This sport is gaining popularity amongst youth in the valley. There was a need to provide a platform for budding martial arts aspirants across the northern district of Kashmir to showcase their talent and develop their skills. Army Camp, Vilgam in collaboration with Karate Association of District Kupwara took initiative of promoting Karate among the masses of it’s AOR.
Methodology
The championship was organised for boys and girls in three categories based on age and weights as follows:-
(a) Sub Junior 8 Yrs to 13 Yrs. – 30 Matches
(b) Cadet 14 /15 yrs. 15 Matches
(C) Junior 16/17 yrs. 10 Matches
Championship was spread over two days from 6th May 2022 to 7th May 2022. Day 1 witnessed weight check of all participants followed by all matches of Sub Junior category.
Day 2 witnessed matches of Sub Junior and Cadet Category and final matches of both categories.
Ground of GBHSS, Villgam was flooded with participants from across the Bn AOR, wherein total of 120 ( 90 Boys and 30 Girls ) participants registered for the championship.
A Total of 55 matches were played during championship in Sub Junior, Junior and Cadet Categories. Finalist of all the three categories were awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals alongwith cash prizes. Certificates were awarded to all the participants.
